Condition Red is a progressive metal project originally a dream child of keyboardist Alexander King and guitarist Lars Eric Mattsson. The first album was composed in 1999 and released in August 2000 and featured a 7 piece band featuring Alex Masi and guest Derek Sherinian on some blistering keyboard solos. Now three years later Condition Red are back with a more focused but yet very diverse album, simply titled II. Singer/Violinist Ella Grussner is a major part of the band’s new refreshed sound but also Alexander King’s keyboards have made a much bigger impact this time around. Gerald Kloos (Empire) is the new drummer and is bound to impress quite a few with his stunning work, there is even a very short drum solo on the album.
The album contains 13 songs, all featuring extremely high musicianship, yet very accessible – the focus this time was on writing shorter songs as opposed to the very long songs on the first album. With Ella Grussner’s soft vocals what we have here is a truly genre crossing album.-
